What is a major drawback of lidar mapping?

Accuracy depends largely on the quality and calibration of the scanner components, the IMU and the GNSS of the system. In typical Musk style, Tesla is an outlier in the development of autonomous cars that do not use LiDAR (light and range detection) as one of their sensors, while many others insist that LiDAR is absolutely necessary for autonomous driving. While LiDAR has many advantages, there are some limitations of LiDAR that make it quite difficult to use. Almost all companies value LiDAR because it is the best for measuring distances and detecting obstacles, which is why it is believed that LiDAR is necessary for safety reasons.
