Tesla is likely to use LiDAR to help train its machine learning algorithms, using it as the fundamental truth when it comes to testing accuracy. Unlike cameras, LiDAR captures extremely accurate 3D depth measurements. Almost every company working on autonomous vehicles right now uses LIDAR. Uber, Waymo and Toyota use it, but not Tesla.
I want to review what the two competing technologies offer and what we should expect from autonomous cars in the future.
